What to Expect

Cabenet Sauvignon: Originally of French origins, this versatile grape produces exceptional wines around the globe. It's usually medium to full bodied with a fine structure that supports black and red fruit flavors with typical notes of olive, chili and herbs that add complexity.

Winemakers Notes

Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot) is loaded with blackberry, blueberry, plum and cassis with nuances of dark chocolate and violets. Classically structured, this complex wine has remarkable elegance and persistence on the long, pure finish. Approachable now, it should reach maturity around 2012 and age for 25 or more years. While we are particularly proud of the last three vintages of our flagship wine, the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon easily rivals them as one of the best wines our estate has ever produced.

"It displays a vividly ripe, candied raspberry, and sweet cherry-scented nose. This voluptuously-textured, medium to full-bodied wine offers decadent layers of seemingly unending waves of red and black fruit flavors. It is sexy, plump, dense, and powerful, yet maintains Quilceda Creek's trademark harmony and elegance…95-97." WA 2/01.

Rating: 93/100 - As reviewed by International Wine Cellar in Issue 98, September/October 2001 Saturated medium ruby-red. Deep aromas of redcurrant, strawberry, blueberry, loam, tar, smoke and minerals; as ripe as this is, it also conveys a suggestion of sappy, crystallized fruits. Large-scaled, fat and rich, with compellingly sweet, superripe berry and dark chocolate flavors of outstanding depth. The big tannins reach the front teeth yet are lush and soft. This has the palate presence and sheer ripeness of an elite Napa Valley cabernet from a top vintage, and at least as much structure for aging.
