Querceto Chianti 2013

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Soft and lightly smoky on the nose with gentle herb and tobacco notes accenting the core of slightly funky boysenberry fruit. This is light and fairly fruity in the mouth, with soft, very supple tannins and a lovely core of boysenberry/wild cherry fruit that has a light sweet and sour edge to it. The acid and a really nice mineral layer emerge on the back end, lending brightness and freshness to the modest finish. Nothing fancy, just easy to enjoy, straight-forward Chianti here. 85pts

Rather vibrant and focused on the nose with fine sage and fennel herb notes framing the core of lightly jammy strawberry fruits, with nuanced almond and smoke top notes and a hint of violet. This is still youthful, tight and bright. The wine is rather compact in the mouth with lovely ripe tannins adding volume. Not terribly large scaled, this offers a lovely, rich core of burnished cherry and strawberry fruit cut with a fine mineral tone. With air, gentle sweet tobacco, apple stem and almond notes emerge on the mid-palate and reveal greater depth on the moderately long finish. This is very well done. Quintessential CCR. 92pts

I regularly find this wine 2/$11, and for the price it's unbeatable.

Dark and earthy, bitter chocolate bark with cherries and cedar. Rich and flavorful. Definitely tastes more expensive than it is.

Has a nice perfume with a fruity bouquet, lots of raspberries and red cherries. The texture is soft and rich in fruit juicy- a lot less complex and intriguing than the 2005 vintage. Berries and black cheery, finishes dry with light tannins. Ok to drink on is own, or pair with some light foods.

Loved it. Rich and smooth. Exactly what I wanted from a Chianti.

Color: Dark red with a hay colored rim. More orange than yellow Aromas: Slightly musty but smells of fig. Taste: Light body with very little tannin. Bright and acidic these tastes so much of apple pie to me it's scary. It has a rich dark fruit flavor with an earthy, mostly vegetable, taste as well. The apple jumps through as does a mild spice. Like cinnamon's shy runt cousin. Finish: Almost no tannin but the acidity of the wine does provide a nice and noticeable finish. Food: Pork, the long lost meat, would go wonderfully with this wine. Get a thick chop. Don't over cook it!!! And enjoy the pairing.

In Italian “querceto” means oak grove, which is where the Castello di Querceto got its name. Nestled in a high valley near Greve in the Chianti Classico zone, the castle, which dates back to the 15th century, is surrounded by a grove of oak trees. Wine production is a legacy here and quality is a tradition. Even with this entry level Chianti DOCG it’s clear that the wine surpasses expectations and offers phenomenal value. Perfect for everyday and any day.

This Classico is made from the traditional blend of grapes and aged in oak. It exemplifies the personal style of winemaker Alessandro Francois.

Querceto Chianti DOCG 2008 wine is brilliant ruby red in color. The bouquet is youthful with scents of ripe fruits. Its flavor is of medium body, vinous, lightly tannic.
