Quady Winery Black Muscat California Elysium 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Black Muscat, another under appreciated muscat variety, is known in Europe as a table grape variety, Muscat Hamburg, one of the very few black skinned muscats. If ripened to about 25 brix, it attains a rose-like aroma and litchi like flavor. This rose-like aroma led Quady to name the wine Elysium, Greek for heaven. Drinking this, you can almost feel you have fallen into a rose garden and been transported to heaven. Elysium is used to either accompany or replace dessert. It is wonderful with blue cheeses, with desserts containing red fruits (such as Summer Pudding, an English favorite), with vanilla, with dark chocolate, with ice cream desserts, and candlelight. One favourite is to pour the wine onto vanilla ice cream. Serve Elysium Sundae with a glass of Elysium. A very cool cocktail is the "Angeli Cooler". Fill a wine glass with ice cubes. Combine tonic water with Elysium (1/2 and 1/2) and a lemon wedge. The Angeli Cooler is perfect on those warm summer nights.

Great mixer for some San Pellegrino. Tastes like Sangria. I added some fresh cut strawberries and a squeeze of lemon juice. Great for a hot afternoon.

Firm in texture and ebulliently fruity, with terrific blackberry, Muscat and nutmeg aromas and flavors. The alcohol doesn't get in the way. Like a Muscat Port. Drinkable now.

Dark red in color and crisp in citrusy acidity, this dessert wine has very sweet flavors of black cherry marmalade, Dr. Pepper cola, milk chocolate, tangerine and savory spices. You can drink it at room temperature or with a chill.

Rote Farbe mit Violettreflexen. Aromen von Rosen, Cassis, Litchi und Holunder. Äusserst fruchtig und elegant mit einer lebendigen Süsse. Dieser rote Dessert-wein ist eine absolute Rarität und eine Bereicherung jeder Degustation.

A beautiful dessert wine that should influence consumers to rediscover the category. Almost as dark as a red wine, it's soft in texture and extraordinarily sweet, with intense essence of tangerine and raspberry flavors. Hard to exaggerate the deliciousness factor. Good value in a full 750-milliliter bottle.
