Winemakers Notes

Carpano, using a recipe from his grandmother, is credited with making the first commercial vermouth in the sweet red or Italian style. Originally vermouth was a beverage based on the plant wormwood (”Wermut” in German) and used medicinally. Since Carpano the essential feature of vermouth, the aperitif, is that it is flavored with a large number of different plants. Good vermouth should be complex with no single botanical predominating.

I tried Vya for the first time as a component of the best Manhattan I've ever had at Zingerman's Roadhouse in Ann Arbor. Love the complexity and spice it adds to one of my favorite classic cocktails.

This wine is finely produced. It is THE best vermouth of the US and rates right up there with the finest of Italian ones. The packaging is also first class. Over the rocks - ooh baby!

Vya sweet vermouth is made from a sweet muscat base to which is added a rich selection of botanicals (herbs, spices and dried citrus rind). It stimulates the palate with a multilayered explosion of tingling sensations, warm flavors and an appetizing bitter-sweetness.
