Purple Cowboy Tenacious Red 2013

Winemaker's Notes:

"The grapes for Purple Cowboy come for the most part from Paso Robles, the largest AVA in San Luis Obispo County on California’s famed Central Coast. Over the years, Paso Robles was known for producing structured Cabernet Sauvignon, in more recent times a group of winemakers known as the Rhone Rangers has garnered attention with Syrah, a grape well-suited to this warm region. The appellation is sometimes called Cowboy Wine Country, owing to its previous identity before winegrowing as a ranching and farming area." -Winery

Sweet black fruits and pipe tobacco, some black pepper, a touch of crayon waxiness, Soft and rich with acids sneaking in on the backend. Bright very purple berry and plum fruit. Soft tannins, a bit of chocolate across the midpalate., Frankly grapy and fun tasting yet with food structure. Fruity yet not a fruit bomb with a decent finish. 87pts

Pretty label. Too bad the taste didn't measure up, far less flavorable than Charles Shaw Shiraz for 1/3 the price.

I am no expert, but I know what I like, and I like this wine. No, it is not terribly complex, and I won't sit there waxing poetic about it. But it is tasty and paired well with the filet and bernaise sauce. As others pointed out, an easy, tasty, uncomplicated wine to enjoy with friends, and there is nothing wrong with that!

Teeth-staining dark red with hints of purple. Vibrant aromas of crushed red berries and cherries, notes of cola and cinnamon, and a hint of earthiness. Berry flavors explode in the mouth with cinnamon and cassis in the mid-palate leading to slight cocoa powder tannins on the finish. A very rich, full-bodied style. - WineryVarietal Composition: A red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and SyrahAlc: 13.5%
