What to Expect

Oregon has only recently emerged as a source for premium wine and is winning fans over to their somewhat earthy style of Pinot Noir. With vineyards a bit cooler than most of California's, yet warmer still than Burgundy, Oregon's Pinot Noirs feature a synthesis of ripe fruit, ripe structure and transparency that draws on the strengths of both. The wines tend to have a touch of earthiness and a sense of transparency that many Pinots from California lack yet the fruit profile, full of dark berries, is decidedly warm-climate in nature.

Winemakers Notes

Per Matt Talley's April 29th notes: "Quite traditional, but not for an Oregon pinot. A traditional Oregon pinot is light, a bit watery, and can smell like anything from oak to chicken poo. This pinot is more Californian, in that it has a medium color and thickness, and has a very earthy smell that has hints of root vegetables (Asparagus? Celery?) and leather (perhaps from gloves?). Great now or in the next 3-5 years." Jon's notes are characteristically simple: "I love the way the strawberry and blueberry pallet lays over the top of the caramel, butterscotch, and plum nose."
