Puligny Montrachet les Combettes Etienne Sauzet 94jg 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

"The 2012 Sauzet Combettes is another excellent wine in the making, offering up a deep and very, very complex nose of apple, clementine, raw almonds, a beautifully crystalline base of chalky soil tones, lemon blossom and citrus oils. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and structured like a grand cru, with superb depth at the core, crisp acids, laser-like focus and a very, very long, impeccably balanced and very concentrated finish. This is a great vintage of Combettes in the making, but cut in the more powerful style of 2012, rather than the silken elegance of the 2010 version here. 2018-2040...94" JG "Bright healthy yellow with green highlights. Pure, vibrant nose combines yellow peach, pineapple, lime and white flowers. Suave, concentrated and fresh; in a distinctly elegant style in the context of this set of wines and not at all exotic. Really intense, dry premier cru with a building, vital finish. The 2011 version may be fruitier but this is denser and more serious. A great premier cru in the making...92-95" IWC 09/13 90-92 Points, Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate: The 2012 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes comes from a single hectare on the Meursault side close to Dominique Lafon’s Charmes. This has a very attractive bouquet with light scents of flint, gypsum and bruised apple that expands nicely in the glass with aeration. The palate is nicely focused with touches of bitter lemon and dried orange peel that segues into a stony, flinty finish that is perhaps atypical for this, habitually one of their fattest premier crus. The bottom line is that this is a commendable wine for the vintage... 12/13
