Prunotto Nebbiolo Nebbiolo d'Alba Occhetti 1967

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

This opened with admirable freshness to the smoky layers of sweet decay that gained depth with notes of clay, dark cherry fruity spicy herbal topnotes, and it's edge of cheesiness. In the mouth This was both round and very resolved, Very peachy upfront followed by red berry fruit and a touch of pink peppercorn. Good acidity adding great brightness to the flavors which finish with great wild berry/ lingonberry tones. By the time we got to this flight, 8:30 or so, this had become musty, the nose was sour and dark with funky notes and a sandy/leather tone. In short order it was declared to be corked and while it was I was glad to have had that initial moment with it at 2:30. This is a lovely bottle that i have enjoyed before but tonight it was the sacrificial lamb
