Prunotto Barbaresco 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

“The entry level Barbaresco from the historic Prunotto estate offers one of the great values from the region. The wine offers approachability with longevity and all the feminie characteristics of the noble Nebbiolo grape. The fruit here is pulled from select vineyards in the townships of Barbaresco and Treiso with soils from the Tortonian and Messinian period known as “Sant’Agata fossil marls”, rich in elements. With the ripe 2011 vintage expect to find complexity on the nose with notes of red fruit and spices, full and velvety on the palate with a long finish and aftertaste. Its structured and full-bodied character make it an excellent match for meat dishes and for cheese…Zachys, October, 2014”

From vineyards in Barbaresco and Treiso Gorgeous on the nose, rich with dried rose petals, dusty earth, menthol, nettle, chalk, woodsmoke a hint of game even and burnished amarena cherries and small plum fruits. Bright acids make this juicy and clear on the palate, perhaps a touch simple but with good concentration and lovely sour cherry, raspberry tinged fruit. The palate lacks the complexity found on the nose, but shows fine energy to the fruit and finishes with well judged but classic tannic bite, with a hint of leather and dried fruit adding some nuance to the finish. 90pts
