Provenance Vineyards are located in the heart of Napa Valley in the Rutherford AVA. They produce an array of superb Napa Vally wines including this Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc. Provenance Director of Winemaking, Tom Rinaldi joined us for a tasting and discussion which you can watch if you click on the video. Tom was the founding Winemaker at Duckhorn Vineyards and knows Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc (Merlot and Cab too, of course) like few others. His style emphasizes the the exceptional fruit character and quality that they are able to achieve in these Rutherford district vineyards. Stainless steel fermentation for 95% and 5% gets barrel fermented. About 7% Semillon is blended in and the wine shows a refreshing, mouthfilling character with bright citrus, pear, white peach and apple nuances.

Rutherford, Napa Valley, CaliforniaProvenance Sauvignon Blanc is a beautiful white wine gem from California's Napa Valley. The 2008 vintage of this wine received a 91-point rating from Wine Spectator and was honored among the magazine's Top 100 Wines of 2009, ranked #56! Winemaker and general manager Tom Rinaldi previously attracted critical acclaim as the founding winemaker of Duckhorn Wine Company, where he made 22 vintages. The winery's focus is on Cabernet Sauvignon. Its only white wine, Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc, made its debut with the 2003 vintage. Catch a rising star! The 2009 vintage of Provenance Sauvignon Blanc is 100% Sauvignon Blanc. The wine offers vibrant aromas of lemon-lime, papaya and floral notes. Hints of lemongrass, gooseberry and minerals add complexity. Lychee, melon and ginger spice add to the array of flavors. Medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, this wine combines bright acidity with a creamy texture. Winemakers Chris Cooney and Tom Rinaldi pressed the grapes in whole clusters and then fermented the juice in a combination of small stainless steel tanks (85 percent) and stainless steel barrels (10 percent) to capture pure fruit expression. The remaining five percent of the juice was fermented in oak barrels for complexity. Lemon custard nuances mingle in the long, fruit-intense finish.Enjoy Provenance Sauvignon Blanc over the next 2-3 years as an aperitif wine or with grilled shrimp, sushi, crab salad, roast chicken and mild cheeses.

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Tasting notes Our Estate Sauvignon Blanc reveals delightful aromas of tropical fruit, lychee and pear complemented by subtle mineral notes. On the palate, the wine shows bright flavors of lemon, pear, guava, cashew, tangerine and mineral. Round and creamy, yet with a vibrant finish, this is an ideal food wine. Enjoy it paired with fresh oysters, shrimp salad and fresh goat cheese.
