(100% tempranillo, raised in older French and American oak barriques) Deep ruby. Pungent aromas of redcurrant, cherry pit and dried flowers, with hints of vanilla and cola. Shows very impressive complexity for the price, offering sweet red and dark fruit flavors and a hint of musky herbs. The spicy finish repeats the cherry note and lingers nicely. There are loads of Riojas out there selling for three times as much that don't match this wine for sheer fruit or complexity. One of the best $7 wines you'll find from Spain. The nose is bright, medicinal and floral, while the palate is loud and peppy, with sweet red fruit flavors that sport a candied coating. Fresh, tasty and simple, which is what it should be. 60% Bobal and 40% Tempranillo. - M.S. Light, fresh and firm, this brisk red offers berry, cherry and leaf flavors with a hint of vanilla. This is modest but lively. Tempranillo. Drink now. 10,000 cases imported. -TM
Red-ruby. Roasted berries, plum, chocolate and spicecake on the nose. Fat, sweet and smooth, with somewhat cabernet-like flavors of roasted red berries and spicecake. A fruit-driven, easygoing, essentially soft wine with a bit more class than the basic Protocolo red; the vineyards here are at higher altitude and the oak barrels are a bit younger.
Great mealtime red, a medium-bodied, softer, lush style with fresh berry and plum. Enough zest on the finish to hold its own with a variety of foods.
This light red mingles tart cherry and vanilla flavors with firm, slightly drying tannins. Fresh and bitter, it needs food to soften it. Drink now.
87 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): (60% bobal and 40% tempranillo) Orange-tinged pink. Fresh strawberry and tangerine on the nose, with a hint of talc coming up with air. Dry, nervy red berry and citrus flavors are nicely focused and slightly rigid, with a white pepper bite emerging on the back end. A grown-up, dry style of pink wine that represents outstanding bang for the buck.
