Prophet S Rock Riesling 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Prophet’s Rock is a newcomer to the burgeoning Central Otago wine scene, and since its début 2005 vintage this small winery has been making big waves. Its twin secrets of success are superbly located and lovingly tended vineyards, and the talents of winemaker Paul Pujol. Having made wine for top estates in New Zealand, Alsace and Oregon, he is ideally placed to deliver world-class Riesling, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir from this exceptional fruit. The grapes were sourced from Prophet’s Rock’s Pisa Vineyard. Extensive canopy and crop management was carried out during the growing season to ensure the grapes attained full physiological ripeness with great concentration, aromatics and flavour. The grapes for this wine were hand picked and field sorted; once at the winery the fruit was 100% whole-bunch pressed to retain maximum aromatics and freshness. The wine was fermented using indigenous yeast and selected yeast cultures in multiple small lots. Once fermentation was completed the wine was matured on its lees prior to bottling in November. This Riesling displays a myriad of floral, citrus and tropical fruit aromas and flavours with an underlying minerality. These aromas are echoed on the concentrated, crisp and lingering palate.
