Quite impressive, although still a touch young to be fully enjoyable without serious decanter time (this was a pop-n-pour). Still, great cherry fruit, with a strawberry component, and although tannic, not overly so. My wine of the night.

The color is a bit translucent - leaning towards a ruby red. The nose is a combination of apricot, liquorice, cranberry, plums, and earth. More of an old school - old world wine. The taste is very hot, spicy, pepperish - little fruit and super dry, almost too aggressive. The finish is interupted by an abrupt acidic event that is off putting more than it is complex. The wine is far more enjoyable with an Italian pasta dish, including ripe tomato sauces. Let this wine breathe and be prepared for heat and spice if you let the wine fall off the center of your palate.

This comes from a "Cantine Sociale", also known as a cooperative of growers known as Produttori del Barbaresco. This is in fact the most important wine of their lineup since it comprises the bulk of their production. Youthful upon opening with dark berries and chalk-driven tannins.
