Produttori del Barbaresco Langhe Nebbiolo 2012
100% Nebbiolo. Medium body vintage, bright red fruit and spicy notes of white pepper and anise. Aged 6 months in large oak barrels. Food matches: Pizzas and pastas, white and red meat, rich fish dishes. Drink: 2014-2018. Not yet reviewed; 2011 vintage rated 90 points by International Wine Cellar: Good medium red. Explosive aromas of dark plum, blueberry, blackberry, smoke, meat and pungent spices, plus a whiff of overripe strawberry. Plush, sweet and substantial, showing an almost exotic aspect to the flavors of strawberry, smoky barbecue sauce and West Indian spices. As large-scaled as the 2010 Barbaresco but less elegant. This is the Produttori's biggest and fullest nebbiolo bottling ever, notes commercial director Aldo Vacca, who added that all of the grapes could have gone into the production of Barbaresco. Has the acidity to cut through grilled pork ribs. I've seen this top value on the shelf for as low as $20.
RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
Editorial Reviews for Produttori del Barbaresco Langhe Nebbiolo
Below 15 years old, 20-23 days on skins, 6 months in wood Very balsamic on the nose with a huge pine resin top note, some sweet woody notes, sweet red fruit and a hint of mint. Rather sweet/tart in the mouth, though mostly tart with lots of cranberry and raspberry flavors. This is less balsamic in the mouth than on the nose, but it retains some of the woodland spice character through the modest finish, which lacks some fruit covering the dry finishing tannins. 85pts
Very aromatic with a really compelling nose filled wild berries, balsamic spices, some cinnamon and a bit of minty fresh herbs. This is intense and ripe in the mouth with impressive complexity and freshness. It has a lovely, lightly chewy feel due to the significant ripe tannins and fine acidity. In the mouth this is remarkably aromatic, and quite Barbaresco like with its masses of ripe fresh balsamic fruit, nice cranberry and strawberry notes topped with herbal, bay leaf and rose petal top notes. A big Langhe Nebbiolo with alcohol of 14.5% this is powerful and full, though today it does seem just a bit light on the finish. 91pts
Four and a half glasses
Nice fruit as well as mineral, floral, spice and herbal notes. Still young, tannins should soften with time.
Four and a half glasses
So, here we are, with this affordable Nebbiolo. Clear, translucent ruby colour in the glass that reminded me of Pinot Noir or Beaujolais. This wine was softer and juicier than I expected. Notes of cherry with some raspberry and plum were dominant, although there were still slight leathery notes. More of the same on the palate, with some spice and mint or menthol. Well integrated acidity isn't really as bracing as you see with other Italian wine. Short-moderate length that leaves you with a drying feeling from the tannin. Although it might be a touch lean, this wine still felt fresh, young, approachable and ready to drink now. *FYI - I read that Langhe is a big area that encompasses both Barolo and Barbaresco, so it's easier for grapes to make the cut. That probably explains our lower price point.

The 2007 Nebbiolo delle Langhe is an especially ripe, full-bodied wine from the Produttori. Sweet, enticing aromas lead to an opulent core fruit. This is an incredibly concentrated wine with superb depth and tons of style, all within the context of traditionally-made Nebbiolo. The richness of the fruit completely covers the tannins, making this an incredibly accessible young Nebbiolo. The Produttori's Nebbiolo delle Langhe is the estate's third selection from 100& Barbaresco-designated vineyards - usually younger vines - aged in cask. It wasn't that many years ago that the Nebbiolo was a highly inconsistent wine. Today, it is arguably the finest value in Langhe Nebbiolo. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2017. Produttori del Barbaresco continues to make better wines with each passing vintage.
Bright cherry, strawberry, floral, licorice and herbal aromas and flavors highlight this fragrant, elegant red, which is silky and pure, with fine ripe tannins for support. Shows excellent length, with an aftertaste of fruit, spice and mineral. Best from 2015 through 2028. 23,333 cases made. -BS The 2009 Barbaresco shows personality and good cheer with a good dose of dried fruit and savory spice. There are some elements that make the wine seem more aged than it really is. Cured meat and old leather emerge. But then the wine suddenly surprises you with an entourage of Nebbiolo-based tones like dried mint and licorice that tell you it still has loads of life within. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022. ** SOLD OUT **
The 2008 Langhe Nebbiolo shows gorgeous depth and purity in a core of dark fruit, spices and minerals. The finish is long and polished, especially for a wine at this level. This fresh, vinous Nebbiolo offers terrific balance and is a great choice for readers who want to begin an exploration into Nebbiolo - one of the world's noble grapes - without breaking the bank. Once again, the Produttori have turned out what may very well be the very finest value in Nebbiolo, and all from young vines in Barbaresco to boot! Anticipated maturity: 2009-2016.
Blended from a selection of this renowned co-op's vineyards in Barbaresco, this shows remarkable balance and composure. Initially floral, with deep scents of rose and plum, it gains elegance and complexity with air, mixing red fruit with savory notes of smoked tea and spice. The structure feels as influenced by acidity as it is by tannin: The flavors are lifted and brisk, the ripeness of the vintage checked by the wine's brightness. An impressive effort, this is worth cellaring a few years if you can resist its charm. Otherwise, decant a bottle for fresh pasta with pork sugo.
Good medium red. Strawberry liqueur on the nose, lifted by spices. Sweet on entry, then a bit strict in the middle palate, with fresh acidity framing the red fruit, tobacco and white pepper flavors. A juicy, fresh, food-friendly nebbiolo with a firm tannic spine.
