Sweet and deep on the nose, with spicy tones, lots of prosciutto and preserved meats with a slightly gamey edge. There are background notes of dried funghi, talc and tobacco lurking behind the red fruits and a floral top note. Big sweet fruit on entry with a round, lush character. This is big yet with excellent balance full of sweet wild berry fruit. Even though this is a bit compressed today there is real volume in the mouth with deep, transparent fruit edged with watermelon and green herbal tones that are crisp and refreshing. Zesty, zingy acids clean the palate on the long finish with its menthol and mineral notes that frame the red fruit. A lovely wine that sacrifices some complexity for lovely purity and a rich mouthfeel that benefits from the high alcohol of the vintage. 90pts
High toned nose on the nose with edgy camphor, balsamic, rose petal, and black currant tinted cherry and raspberry fruit. Broad, a perhaps a little soft and chewy on the palate this is weighty and deep with nice balsamic rose petal tones to the dark red wild berry fruit which shows some light astringency and a hint of orange peel. Long yet quite tannic on the finish, and showing fine sandalwood and cinnamon accents, this has a soft sweetness but none of the over ripeness one finds in Barolo in 2009. 90pts

With a soft mineral laced nose, this turns quite floral in the glass picking up and hints of spice, underbrush, blood, herb and soil. Almost sweet on entry and showing fresh wild berry and blood orange, with a contrasting dash of bitter grapefruit pith and some slightly medicinal edges, this displays lovely balance and freshness in an elegant style with slightly grainy tannins and a little bite of acidity on the wild cherry rich finish. Elegant, and refined, this is very pretty and will show well young and age well for twenty years. In a way it feel like 2008 Barolo, with excellent clarity and balance, and while qualitatively this is about at the same level as the 2009 and 2008 vintages I prefer this. 90pts
Green herbal on the nose with a touch too much SO2, leathery with distinct Slavonian oak barrel stink in all its black pepper spiced salamed glory. Elegant and lean in the mouth with refined tannins and bright acids, that are juicy. There id plenty of rich fruit here but this is a bit dull and flat tonight with a solid core of wild red cherry fruit and herbal top notes, mineral undertones and a touch of tar on the finish but the mid-palate is a bit hollow. Zesty and fresh and gaining a mature edge but too shy tonight though there is decent length. 86pts
With a sweet herb tinged nose, this opens to show soil and spiced cherry fruit over a base of limestone. Additional air brings out a little briar, coffee and an Asian spice note. Broad and open, and almost ready to go in the mouth this is showing off fresh lively fruit supported by soft tannins and good acidity adding attractive cut on the palate. A bit less well defined on the back end,which carries with it some quite ripe fruit flavors that leads to a moderately long finish that shows soft, chewy tannins, Riper than 2010, this is a fairly big and slightly flamboyant wine. 90pts
Dark and earthy at first with raspberry in alcohol, tree bark, fleshy wild cherry and a minor menthol note. This opens to reveal good aromatic complexity full of incipient floral tones, pollen, and fennel seed tones. Sweet on entry with a really nice structure that features the bigger tannins of the vintage which are a touch drying. Fine acids well integrated keeping the wine feeling cool and crisp with very good intensity of flavor to the astringent red fruits The really pretty tannins are a bit crunchy in their rawness and while the fruit has a candied edge, the tannins bitterness pokes through, particularly on the finish which is on the short side. Appealing based on potential at this point; Give it a year or 2. 87pts
A light, ruby-colored nebbiolo. The nose is a pungent earthy/cherry mix that almost approaches cough syrup on the palate with it's intensity. Still quite young/tight with a good bit of astringency. Breathing for a day mellowed it out some. Not bad but not great...at least not yet.
Enjoyed this for the first time at the recommendation of some new friends. A great selection. It paired nicely with our fantastic cheese selection and Braised Lamb Shanks main course.
From one of the best co-operatives in the world - and a wonderful barbaresco producer. Still young and tannic, but opens up after a few hours. Light colored, with a little tar and tobacco. Not sure this is one for the ages - but enjoyable.
Yes, we all know that Produttori del Barbaresco is a great cooperative (all we have to do is consult Hugh Johnson for that gem). However, what I am concerned about here is the wine: it has an inviting acidic red fruit nose somewhere between cultivated cranberry and chokecherry but palate-wise it has lost any tannin that may have been present in youth. Nevertheless, this wine is smooth and prim - if a bit tired. A crowd pleasing tipple with the company in any event. Though sound and typical of the nameplate, a touch disappointing for such a vaunted vintage. 88 points.
Bright cherry fruit with lots of acidic zing and powder on the finish.
This was a different lot from my first tasting note. Lot # 9.097 I opened this bottle with the intention of having a single glass on the first night and allowing the rest to slow-o for 24 hours. The first night it showed fresh, ripe cherries, leather strap and rock dust on the nose with deep, rich red fruit on the palate. A silky tannic structure combined with a juicy and vibrant core of fruit, made this wine extremely enjoyable on the first night. It was hard to imagine it getting much better. Night two showed just how good this bottle of wine really is as the nose took on dried fall leaves, tar and sweet and sour cherry fruit. With further exploration I found dusty potpourri and fresh turned soil. On the palate, the wine had softened, showing sweet dark red fruit, plum and cedar. Even with 24 hours of air, if someone told me that this bottle had just been opened, I may have believed it. It came across as light on its feet yet with impeccable balance and structure. The finish is long as dark red fruit lingers on the palate.
The nose showed dusty cherry with caramel, sweet sap and a hint of green stems. On the palate this wine showed a medium body with sour cherry, with clove and a bit of rust. Tannin showing a little course on the finish, which showed spicy red fruit.

This comes from a "Cantine Sociale", also known as a cooperative of growers known as Produttori del Barbaresco. This is in fact the most important wine of their lineup since it comprises the bulk of their production. Youthful upon opening with dark berries and chalk-driven tannins.
Nebbiolo this good, at this price, is unheard of. Lively earthy berry fruit floats atop fine tannins and great acidity. This Cantina's wines holds up to the producer's excellent reputation.
Very aromatic, showing menthol, spice and blackberry, this is sweet and juicy on the palate, with ripe fruit and oak spice notes. The tannins pack a bit of an edge, so give this at least a year. Fine length. Best from 2013 through 2022.
Attractive aromas of dried flowers and crushed dark fruits. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and bright acidity. Goes on and on. Reserved and fresh. Needs time. Best after 2008.
Ovello is one of Barbaresco's fresher microclimates, so it can be no surprise that the 2001 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is quite backward at this stage. It is a stunning display of Nebbiolo with expressive aromatics, generous fruit, prominent minerality and plenty of personality. Full-bodied and long on the palate, it is still somewhat reticent today, although all the ingredients are clearly in place for this to offer outstanding drinking in a few years' time. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2021.
The 2007 Barbaresco offers up generous dark red fruit in an unusually flashy style for this wine. There is wonderful up-front richness, but then the wine loses a bit of depth on the mid-palate. The aromatics are also not quite as expressive as I would have liked. As delicious as this is, I miss the structure of 2006, the fruit of 2005 and the layered personality of 2004, any one of which might have elevated the 2007. As it stands, the 2007 Barbaresco comes across as open, accessible and ready to provide considerable pleasure, at least over the medium term. This is Lot 10.106. Anticipated maturity: 2010–2022.

<p>Produttori del Barbaresco Langhe Nebbiolo 2007 is a medium bodied red from one of the best wine cooperatives in the world. Each year Produttori del Barbaresco, declasses around 20% of their Nebbiolo production to create a Barbaresco caliber wine with younger and edgier fruit for a much lower price. The aromas include violets, white pepper and star anise which complement the palate of raspberries and cherries. Light spice notes and a bold acidity finish this flavorful red. </p>
