Founded in 1958, the priest of the village of Barbaresco, recognizing that the only way small properties could survive was by joining their efforts, gathered together nineteen small growers and founded the Produttori del Barbaresco. From its humble beginnings making the first three vintages in the church basement, Produttori del Barbaresco has grown to a 52 member co-operative with 250 acres of Nebbiolo vineyards in the Barbaresco appellation and an annual production of over 500,000 bottles. Its vineyards amount to almost 1/6 of the vineyards of the area. Each member is in full control of their land, growing Nebbiolo grapes with the skill and dedication they have honed over generations. Playing a key role in elevating the quality level of Barbaresco over the years, Produttori del Barbaresco produces a simpler Nebbiolo Langhe, a Barbaresco blend and nine single vineyard wines produces in premier vineyards: Asili, Rabajà, Pora, Montestefano, Ovello, Pajè, Montefico, Muncagota and Rio Sordo. Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

The 2001 Barbaresco Riserva Rabaja is more generous than the Ovello, with a sweeter and more expansive core of ripe fruit and suggestive nuances of roses, menthol, licorice, minerals and tar. It offers outstanding length as well as definition with, building, yet fine tannins and a gorgeous balsamic note to cap off the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2021.

A delicious nose of ripe fruit and Indian spices, with perfumes. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a beautiful core of fruit. Features blackberry, chocolate and citrus fruit on the finish. Best after 2011.

Very floral, with blackberry and plum character. Full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and silky, refined tannins. Gorgeous finish. Best after 2008.

Good full red. Sexy, ripe aromas of raspberry, mocha and underbrush. Sweet, lush, full and sweet; in contrast to a number of these 2005s, this displays plenty of baby fat today. Not yet complex but finishes broad, full and long, with ripe, building tannins. Shows less acid cut than the Moccagatta but more tannins.
