Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Pajè Riserva 2009
"...open, round and inviting. In this vintage, the Pajè is quite floral and open, with fewer of the darker, mentholated, spiced notes that I associate with this site. I expect the 2009 to drink well pretty much right out of the gate. With time in the glass, more Pajè character emerges, but overall, this is a relatively straightforward offering with fine balance but less site-specific character than normal...90" AG 10/13
Editorial Reviews for Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Pajè Riserva
Spicy, tight, refined and focused on the nose with a little sweetly smoky, mesquite and hickory tone which is followed by mineral and candied herb notes that take on a bit of a cola elements. Fairly ripe and a bit soft in the mouth, this is a little chewy with lots of red fruit early on the palate then a bit of spiciness on the mid-palate but this lacks a bit of tension in the mouth with a loose knit structure and intriguing dried herb notes on the finish. this lacks a touch of tension in the mouth, lots of fruit up front, the a bit of spiciness, easy with some tannins and chaparral herb flavors on the finish. 90pts
A return to a more closed nose with chalk and sand tones serving as a base for subtle lilac and baby powder tones to build apon. With air this turns lightly medicinal and offers up smoke and spice tinged notes of pomegranate. Soft and rich on entry then turning quite austere and structured as the tannins pop on the palate. This has a decidedly dark and earthy core of fruit supported by vibrant yet integrated acidity. The finish returns to a bit of a softer character with wonderful inner mouth perfumes persisting on the long finish. 2012-2024 89pts
This seemed a bit closed with its dusty tone but opened slowly if grudgingly to reveal a soapy floral tone, old dried asphalt, hot rocks, and subtle herbal/rubber notes. In the mouth there is the sweetness of age wrapped up in a soft, flannelly palate impression. Wild berry and lingonberry fruit with bright, supporting acids and complicating suggestions of dried funghi and forest floor. There is nice tension in the mouth and while my initial impression was that this was a bit short there was a sneaky return of wild raspberry fruit. A very nice wine that would have developed with a bit more air. 2009-2017 90pts

Playing true to type the 2008 Barbaresco Riserva Pora is another of the more open wines in this vintage. But that is only in relative terms. Layers of expressive red fruit crushed flowers and spices flesh out in this radiant Barbaresco. In most vintages the Pora is one of the more accessible of the Riservas when young. The close proximity of the vineyard to the Tanaro River results in a warm microclimate that ripens the fruit earlier than elsewhere. In 2008 though the Pora packs a serious punch. The coolness of the late harvest comes through in a finish laced with considerable tension and minerality. This is easily one of the very best Poras I have ever tasted from the Produttori. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2048. -Antonio Galloni Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.
The 2004 Barbaresco Riserva Paje achieves a remarkable marriage of elegance and power. It’s all here as this vibrant, pure Barbaresco engages the intellectual and pleasure-seeking senses with an endless array of dark cherries, menthol, licorice, spices and espresso. This wonderfully complete, full-bodied Barbaresco needs some time for the tannins to settle down, but it is truly a special wine in every way. Anticipated maturity: 2012–2024.
Good full red. Deeply pitched, cooler aromas of sour cherry and licorice. Suave, concentrated and nicely balanced, with an edge of acidity contributing to the wine’s restrained character. But this is nicely broad and ripe too, and finishes with very good energy and length. The wine’s firm tannic spine becomes more apparent with aeration.
