Private Reserve Lalande de Pomerol Christian Moueix 2003

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/126531 for £5.Lalande de Pomerol is a right bank Bordeaux appellation created in 1954,although there has been viticulture here since at least the 12th century, for red wines from the two communes of Lalande de Pomerol and Neac, just north of the commune of Pomerol itself. My bottle comes from the well known negociant house of Jean-P[ierre Moueix. I do not know the exact cepagement but I beleive it to be a merlot dominated blend.I started the bottle last night with my supper of roast lamb. It was a nice red/purple colour and there was plenty of a blackcurrant, plum and cherry style fruit with soft tannins although there was not a great deal in the way of structure. In short, this was an OK wine, especially for the money, but not one of the better right bank clarets I have tasted
