Sweet and soft on the nose with early accents of mocha, sweet tobacco leaf, allspice and brown sugar joined by dried bay leaf and black currants. On entry this shows excellent integration and while there is plenty of acidity here, it is held nicely in check by the rich yet not weighty fruit. The oak is well measured as well, yielding a rather seamless wine with attractive herb, toast and blackcurrant flavors; elegant and bright with refreshing acidity on the moderately long finish which ends with cinnamon dusted red berry fruits. This probably won't wow many, but it drinks quite well in a rather classic modern Napa Valley style. Snappy, clean and crisp. 89pts

Fruity on the nose with a nice underlay of toasty oak spice and vanilla and top notes of braised herbs, licorice and violets. This is smooth and supple in the mouth with an initial rush of smoky, toasty and scorched earth inner-mouth perfumes. Perhaps a bit on the tight side, this shows a fairly heavy if balanced load of load tannins in the mouth along with dark pencil lead and toast flavors over some grape, with red currants and fresh purple and blue fruits. The finish is cut short by the tannins. This has some of the hardness and underlying unyielding nature of old school winemaking. I bet this gets better with 2-5 years in the cellar. Needs an aggressive steak for dinner tonight. 90pts

Dark red-more-than-purple in the glass. Oaky and smokey nose. Very pleasant on the tip of the tongue. Slight fruty sweetness--plums. As the wine travels through the palate tannis pop up along with some tartness. Very nice lingering finish. I would suggest is that this is not a wine for long aging, although it is an emminantly drinkable wine right now. US$18.99 at Costco.

Nose of ripe cassis withhints of candied cherry and currant. Some very slight eucalyptus and sweet oak vanilla. On the palate, it's rich and dry. Ripe cassis, currant, black plum and black cherry with some light cocoa and oak spice. Good acid balance to this so it should age and progress nicely with a few more years' aging. I think Franciscan always delivers a solid moderately priced, good value Napa cab. 86 pts.

The smell is of tobacco or cigar box taste of black cherry. It is very light in the mouth but the taste lingers in a very good way

This was one of the worst bottles of wine I ever had. Over oaked, unbalanced...covered red fruit flavors.

Aromas of rich chocolate, coffee, and cassis with notes of mixed dark fruit and raspberry. Extraordinarily rich and mouth-filling, with flavors of cassis, coffee and toasted oak that grace a well-structured body, full of texture with ripe, supple tannins

Rich, round, and full-bodied; layered with blackberry, cherry, dried plums, and a hint of cocoa; generous weight on the palate and smooth, mouth-filling tannins; the finish lingers with flavors of rich cassis and black cherry.

Deep crimson. Lively cinnamon aromas, with black cherry, cocoa, espresso coffee bean, nutmeg. Rich flavors and an exquisite mouth-feel, velvety tannins, ripe fruit balanced with notes of chocolate and French vanilla. A lengthy, elegant finish.

Special Case Discount! Magnificat is one of the original Meritage blends in California. The wine is founded on Cabernet Sauvignon, but true to Meritage, other Bordeaux varietals are added to give roundness, structure, and rich complexity.
