Fruity on the nose with a nice underlay of toasty oak spice and vanilla and top notes of braised herbs, licorice and violets. This is smooth and supple in the mouth with an initial rush of smoky, toasty and scorched earth inner-mouth perfumes. Perhaps a bit on the tight side, this shows a fairly heavy if balanced load of load tannins in the mouth along with dark pencil lead and toast flavors over some grape, with red currants and fresh purple and blue fruits. The finish is cut short by the tannins. This has some of the hardness and underlying unyielding nature of old school winemaking. I bet this gets better with 2-5 years in the cellar. Needs an aggressive steak for dinner tonight. 90pts

This is an impressively rich, intense, espresso-style of Cabernet at a very appealing price. While quite reliant on jazzy oak and its mocha-laced appearance, there are lots of complex and concentrated blackberry and currant flavors, finishing with plush tannins. Drink now through 2010.

Smooth red currant flavors come up against meatier aspects to the tannins, where the wine feels a little rough and vegetal. A grilled steak will cancel out those tannins and bring the juicier flavors forward.

Cushioned and complete, this does Napa right. Itrsquo;s not complex, just filled with ripe cherry fruit and the pie-crust scent of oak, perfumed and tight. The structure of alcohol and roasted tannins keep it at a distance; give it time or lamb sausages to rein it in.

Smooth and supple, with a tasty mix of currant, cedar, tobacco and spice, it wins points for its elegance and balance. Mildly tannic, itrsquo;s ready to drink now. Drink now through 2008.

Supple and fruity, with creamy cherry, plum and berry notes that are elegant and polished, finishing with hints of coffee and spice. Best from 1999 through 2005.

Distinctive aromas of bright fruit with subtle hints of dried herbs and toasted oak. Flavors are rich and dense, with black cherry, currant, mixed berry and plum characters.

Ripe black cherry and plum aromas mingle with toasty oak and a hint of leather. In the mouth, ripe black cherry, plum and currant flavors are beautifully in balance with sweet oak carrying through to a long finish.

Winemaker's Notes:

Ruby red. Aromas of rich chocolate, coffee, and cassis with notes of mixed dark fruit and raspberry. Extraordinarily rich and mouth-filling, with flavors of cassis, coffee and toasted oak that grace a well-structured body, full of texture with ripe, supple tannins on the lingering finish.
