didn’t like it. thin, heavy tannins, kind of ‘naked’ oak without enough fruit or body to balance it. I love the Franciscan merlot, but this one was a no for me.
complex wine, with flavors of oak, leather, and plum. pairs well with dishes that can stand up to its fuller body, like the pork tenderloin we ate it with this past weekend.
Full bodied with dark fruits and a hint of leather. Smooth mouth feel and a great wine for the price!
enjoyed the wine. the level of merlot softens the wine, but the tannins don't quite stand up. other paso robles blends are better. try justin.

Ripe and distinctive, with a toffee , spice scented tone to the supple currant and blackberry flavors, finishing rich and elegant. Has the style and concentration to mature thru 1998. 70% Cabernet Sauvignon 25% cab Franc, and 5% Merlot.
Plenty of ripe, up-front currant, cedar, herb, sage and dill flavors. Turns tannic, but it's better balanced than many 1998s. Drink now through 2005.
Estancia, which began as an Alexander Valley label founded by Agustin Huneeus, is now part of Constellation’s Icon Estates portfolio and is focused on vineyards in Monterey (for cool-climate grapes like Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) and Paso Robles (for the warmer-weather grapes). The winery planted nearly 700 acres of grapes in 1999 at its Keyes Canyon Vineyard on the east side of Paso Robles; Cabernet Sauvignon dominates, but there’s also Merlot, Petit Verdot, Zinfandel, Syrah and Petite Sirah. That vineyard is the source for this Bordeaux-style blend of 61 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 30 percent Merlot and 9 percent Petit Verdot. It’s a big, concentrated Meritage, with dark cherry and cassis fruit, some nice spice and a hint of mocha. There’s a long finish marked by firm but approachable tannins. You could easily cellar this Meritage for a few years, but it’s delicious now with something hearty, like a grilled steak, pot roast or even a juicy cheeseburger.
Inviting aromas of dark cherry, sage, and red plums. Complex layers of ripe berries, with undertones of vanilla and cloves. Full-bodied and textural, with ripe flavors of black plum and cherry, cocoa and cassis.
This Bordeaux-style red blend is one of the most reliable of its genre. Grilled steak brushed with garlic and extra virgin olive oil or roast lamb would complement it well.

Winemaker's Notes:
Franciscan Cabernet Sauvignon has rich bouquet of deep blackcurrant, dark cherry and blackberry. Hints of sweet vanilla with enticing mocha and tobacco notes add complexity to the dark, dense layers of fruit. Franciscan Cabernet Sauvignon good concentrated and well-built, the mouthfeel is substantial with generous body. Flavors of currants, cherry, cocoa, and soft toasty notes build on the palate, leading to a rich lingering finish of plum and cassis. Ruby red.
