Primus the Blend Veramonte Colchagua Valley 2010
Franciscan Napa Cabernet Deep garnet. A rich bouquet of dark cherry, cocoa, clove, plum, tobacco and toasted oak, with delicate notes of coffee and truffle. Layered and complex. Rich and full on the palate with a supple mouthfeel and opulent layers of plum, cherry, anise, and mocha. Smooth and concentrated, the wine exhibits richly woven texture with dark, dense fruit on the long finish. 083085200220

Nothing very special, but nothing too bad either, more like something to depend on from a wine list when nothing else seems appropriate for a specific experience...similar to the posted Wine Maker's notes: '...full-bodied; layered with blackberry, cherry, dried plums, and a hint of cocoa...'
Needed to be decanted.. but opened up quickly. Very nice red blend.

The chateau produces wine in vintages that favor Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, or Merlot. 2010 as well as 2009 are vintages where the Merlot clearly excelled and became the preponderance of the blend. A dark expression of cherry and plum, with smoke and tar accents. The dense, assertive tannins are prominent, leaving an astringent finish. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2015 through 2024.
The 2010 Magnificat is composed of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot. It possesses a deep purple color along with sweet creme de cassis, charcoal and background oak characteristics. There is no trace of herbaceousness in this full-bodied, opulent, nicely textured, chewy, long 2010. It is an impressive effort from Franciscan. Surprisingly tannic and closed for an '01 Napa, but this may be a stylistic decision. It's a very fine wine, well balanced and rich in oak and blackberry-cherry fruit. Totally dry, but those tannins really lock up the flavors. Best after 2010. - S.H. ** SOLD OUT **
Good deep ruby. Spicy aromas of blueberry licorice minerals flowers and bitter chocolate. Sweet suave and deep with lovely lift to the complex cabernet franc-driven violet cocoa and white pepper flavors. Firmly structured and long on the refined youthfully chewy tannic finish. This 2010 will really need at least a few years to expand but will probably always remain a more austere wine than the 2009. I think will also prove to be a very ageworthy VCC. 96+ Stephen Tanzers IWC.

The assemblage in this vintage is 86%Merlot 8% Cab Franc 6% Cab Sauvignon. This is even more dominated by Merlot than the 2009 which came in at 84% Merlot 8% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc. Shaped by low yields and high alcohol the wine clocked in at 14.5% alcohol. The IPT levels are equally high at 90. As a point of reference this level of IPT recorded in 2010 is the same as the chateau recorded in their press wine a decade ago. 2010 Vieux Chateau Certan resembles dark purple ink. Exotic liqueur aromas plums truffle flowers chocolate and spice aromas are found with little effort. The mouth filling wine paints your palate with sexy ripe liquid silk sensations.
