External Reviews for Primus Cabernet Sauv./Carmenère
Subtle aromas of marzipan and cola yield to overriding prune and raisin scents on this extremely ripe, almost overripe blend. Soft and spongy on the palate, with berry and prune flavors, this shows smoke and toast notes on a low-pulse finish. Drink now.
The 2010 Primus The Blend is 39% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Carmenere, 23% Syrah and 10% Merlot raised for fourteen months in French oak, 25% new. It has a well-defined bouquet with blackberry, blueberry and subtle floral notes imparted by the Syrah. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins. It is nicely balanced, but somehow this blend of varieties means that the wine loses direction and focus, not quite knowing what it wants to be. It is enjoyable, but I would reconsider the blend of “The Blend.” Drink now–2017.
