Primo Estate "La Biondina 2006

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Colombard has never tasted so good! Additions of Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc contribute to the aromatic complexity of this wine with wonderful notes of peach, herb and tropical fruits building upon the citrussy base. In the mouth the acidity of the riesling cuts through the fairly rich fruits while the grassy Sauvignon Blanc adds contrast. Very refreshing and just a wonderfully balanced mid-weight white. 89pts

Primo Estate owns and operates a state of the art winery located on the Virginia Vineyard property. It is a custom designed facility that contains an intriguing mixture of new and old world technologies. There are numerous special features like a 50 metre drying rack area, visible from the driveway entry and used for making the JOSEPH 'La Magia' botrytis wine. At the core of the winery, suspended above head height, are five ten tonne open concrete red fermenters. These are more labour intensive but there is no doubt that the subtle aeration and warmer temperatures that they give during the fermentation phase results in wine with more soul. Another rare sight are the three large oak casks which perpetually contain wine for the JOSEPH Sparkling Red. Shiraz going back to the mid 1980s is in this mother of all base wines. Read less

This has been a house bianco at Simpson Acres for many years, though have stopped now at £9.99 its a £1 or 2 too expensive in UK. Great aperitif and vibrant flavours that lift the spirit. Have enjoyed all past vintages. Truly the best Colombard we have tasted. NB Primo Estate make excellent red wines especially Shiraz and Moda Amarone.
