Picked this off the store shelf instead of my usual "go-to" Apothic Red. I was curious, since the two are both California blends of Merlot, Zin, and Syrah. This wine is no game changer, but I was pleased to find that it gives Apothic Red a run for its money. It's a rich and fruity, jammy red blend with bold flavor. Plenty of coffee and mocha on the nose, hints of vanilla (obv. aged in oak) Tobacco and cherry on the palate. Nice and smooth! Not a bad glass-after-work wine. =)

Simple: I think Menage a Trois and Apothic out-do this bottle. It is a nice attempt... but the smell and taste are not nearly as bold as the wines mentioned. I also bought Relative Red... it's not as good as that one either. You'll like it if you like the above mentioned... perhaps a little cheese would cheer up this whine! ha!

Bought in 2011 was hiding in storage. Tried it today. Vintage 2010 mellow light fruity taste. Acceptable but not exceptional.

The true essence of Primal Roots begins with the raw qualities of Merlot, Syrah, and Zinfandel that are artfully blended to create a smooth, full-bodied, sensual wine.

A lush, mouthwatering red blend, Primal Roots combines three of California's most versatile and distinctive grapes; Merlot, Syrah and Zinfandel for a wine that delivers the best of all three. Oak aging adds to the nuance and complexity while the softness, richness and ripe fruit of 43% Merlot marries with the bold texture and earthiness of 37% Syrah and the zesty berry and spice of 20% Zinfandel for a mouthful of wine that's both tasty and satisfying. A perfect choice for everyday foods and enjoyment.
