Prima Materia Grenache Blend 2013

Winemaker's Notes:

48 cases made Syrah, Petite Sirah and Mourvedre were dried for 12 days, then added whole cluster to destemmed and crushed Grenache after picking 10/15/2013 Fermented in t-bins, 25% whole cluster, 15 days to dryness. Moved by bucket and shovel. Wood basket pressed. 2 years in neutral barrels Never racked, no SO2 for first 20 months, 30 ppm free at bottling. Hand bottled. Vineyard: All but the Mourvedre were estate grown at Rosa d’Oro Vineyards at 1,380’ outside of Kelseyville in Lake County. Forbesville series volcanic soils, California sprawl trellises. My homage to rustic/earthy but full throttle sun-drenched CdP. The label image is Athansius Kircher’s 1638 drawing of Mount Vesuvias. All the fruit in this wine came from either on top of a volcano (Mourvedre) or from the lower slopes of the Mt. Konocti volcano where our vineyard is (Grenache, Petite Sirah, Syrah).
