Very spicy notes of black and white pepper. Interesting mineral notes after the spices and a medium length finish. My wife didn't like this wine.
Super opaque in color. On the nose there was a enticing sweet boysenberry, blueberries and pure vanilla extract-american oak quality I really liked. The palate exposed super deep plush & dark fruits as previously mentioned in a sea of smooth tannins. There was a flowery quality present as well as some pepper notes. The finish was long and sweet. A velvet fist wrapped in an iron glove. (waiting to put this expression in words for years).I gotta say, I have had this a few times and this showed the best yet. I am glad I held onto my bottles. Perfect served during family BBQ. It was a hit amongst the the non-winos as well. There was something for everyone.
Syrah is not the grape that most people associate with Pride Mountain. That said, the results are impressive. The variety of berry fruit that comes through early wins my palate over, and the later vanilla notes soothe for a long finish. I'm holding a few bottles back to try in another 3 to 4 years. Fortunately that leaves some to drink now.

Good medium ruby. Wild aromas of roasted black raspberry, pepper, bacon fat and nutty oak. Silky and fine-grained, with a gamey syrah character that's currently overshadowed by an impression of strong acidity. Very intensely flavored and firm but a b... Stephen Tanzer. Mildly gamy, a touch smoky and simply brimming with sweet, caramelized, oaky spice, Pride Mountain's latest Syrah goes for complexity and depth while keeping overt fruitiness fairly quiet. It is full and fleshy in feel without the heaviness that some... Connoisseur's Guide. A Syrah wine from California in USA. 2003 Pride Mountain Vineyards Syrah 750ml

Winemaker's Notes:
The nose swirls with concentrated aromas of Bing cherry, rose petal, creosote, sandalwood, butcher block and cardamom.Exotic aromas of rose oil and Indian spice enliven a core of pure plum and berry fruit. The palate is silky and fine, with layers of pretty red fruit balanced by the concentration and size typical of our mountain wines. Always a most versatile wine, this Syrah is a perfect match for an exotic menu featuring savory wild mushrooms or roasted dishes.
