Pride Mountain Vineyards Claret Reserve 2003
“Big, beefy, rich flavors and superb intensity,” said Robert Parker, referring to the 2003 Reserve Claret. Loaded with rich, ripe cherries, cassis, chocolate and espresso character, this outstanding and much sought after Merlot-based blend (2/3 Merlot and 1/3 Cabernet Sauvignon), is proof that fine wine connoisseurs know not to take advice on what to drink from the movies!
Gave it five hours of air. The nose alone was intoxicating with raspberry jam, autumnal spices, tobacco, cocoa and a bit of cedar. Full and sensuous on the palate showing currant, blueberry and violets with a long staying finish.
Four and a half glasses
One of the best Napa Cab blends I've ever had. The slight cinnamon flavor just about rocked my world.

Wine Advocate ReviewRated 93-96From the barrel, the gorgeous 2005 Reserve Claret should turn out to be a top-notch example of Pride Mountain winemaking. It possesses a deep ruby/purple color as well as notes of black raspberries, espresso, sweet cherries, and notions of cedar as well as graphite. Full-bodied with strong tannins, a velvety texture, a voluptuous, long mouthfeel, and a 45+ second finish, this gorgeous 2005 should age for 15 or more years.Wine Tasting NotesPlum jam, strawberry, kirsh, cocoa and maple syrup candy flavors present a beguiling introduction to a multi-dimensional wine that is both playful and serious. Silky and voluptuous up front, round through the mid-palate, and powerful in the finish, this wine is our classic blend of 2/3 expressive Lower Mountain Top Clone 3 Merlot balanced with 1/3 of our resolute Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon blend. The 2005 vintage presented us with near ideal growing conditions for our dense, mountain-top style. The Reserve Claret is quite approachable in its youth, but bold enough to cellar for 15 years.

The strength of the 2005 vintage at Pride is again noticeable when one compares some of the lower level Cabernet Sauvignons with the 2004 Reserve Claret. While the latter wine (89% from Sonoma and 11% from Napa) is outstanding, it is not as good as t... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. A barrel sample of the black/purple-tinged 2003 Reserve Claret (two-thirds Merlot and one-third Cabernet Sauvignon) does not reveal the silkiness of the 2002, but it boasts big, beefy, rich flavors and superb intensity. The 2002 Reserve Claret possesses a lush texture as well as a huge upfront flamboyant bouquet of vanilla spice box blueberries white chocolate licorice and toasty oak. This 400-case blend of two-thirds Merlot and one-third Cabernet Sauvignon is elegant yet incredibly rich dense and seamless. It is drinking beautifully and should continue to do so for 12-14 years.
