Pregio del Conte-Aglianico/ Montepulciano Saladini Pilastri Saladini Pilastri Marche Cuvée Rot 2003

External Review by WineExpress.com:

Saladini Pilastri was the first winery in the Piceno area to achieve the prestigious Tre Bicchieri award from Italy's wine bible, the Gambero Rosso. All the winemaking is overseen by famous enologist Alberto Antonini. All of the farming is done without the use of chemical fertilizers and the winery is recognized by the EU as organic. Robert Parker raves about the wines, perpetually scoring them 90 and above. A distinctive blend of 50% Montepulciano and 50% Aglianico. Slow fermentation with a long maceration on the skins brings deep color and softens the naturally hard tannins of the extraordinary Aglianico grapes. After aging 18 months in 60 gallon oak barriques the wine is round and full with exotic notes of rose petal, red cherry, bitter almond and chocolate.
