A touch dull on the nose with meaty base notes, spicy blackberry pie fruit and hints of pine and raspberry emerging with air. This enters the mouth with real polish and more freshness than the nose promises. The fruit has a lovely woodsy edge to it with slightly brambly blackberry and an undercurrent of strawberry and lovely, nuanced herb and spice notes. The oak becomes a touch more apparent with time but never dominates the palate, which shows complex flashes of cherry pit fruit, some slate minerality, a touch of blue fruit on the back end and a really nice fresh yet firm finish. 90pts

Praxis is derived from the Greek word for practice as a doctor or lawyer would practice. In our Praxis wines, Bill can hone his craft of wine making. Since launching the label, we have also found that it is a moon of the Klingon home planet on Star Trek and a verb for domination in an on-line vampire game. This is our ninth vintage of Pinot Noir and our fifth from this sustainably farmed vineyard in Monterey. Bill loves the chalky soils there which allow him to create the Burgundian style Pinots that we love. The color is ruby red with garnet highlights. Black raspberry, vanilla and mushroomy earth notes fill the glass along with violet and geranium floral scents. Flavors of cranberries, raspberries, red currants and plums are complemented by a hint of allspice. The wine is soft, balanced and alluring with bight acidity and rich velvety mouthfeel.
