This is darkly earthy on the nose with a fudgy quality that frames the plummy fruit. Air brings out lovely accent notes of eucalyptus. Nice and fairly bright on entry, this has a bit of a rugged feel to it, deep and a bit dark on the palate with some obvious tannins adding texture in the mouth. The fruit is darkly cherried in the mouth with earthy overtones and some bitter chocolate and toasty oak spice accent notes. Just a bit on the chunky side this seems to want to be leaner and finds its focus on the finish which shows some lovely blackberry and bramble notes along with those chewy tannins. This needs a year or two to calm down but is very well balanced and already exhibits excellent depth of flavor and incipient complexity. 91pts

Winemaker's Notes:

Deep purple in color with red highlights dancing in the glass. Plum and blueberry aromas are accented by notes of cedar, allspice and sage. Black cherry, blueberry, plums and red cherry flavors are complemented by lingering vanilla, dried herb and spice. This juicy, plush wine has a long finish with medium tannins and toasty oak.
