Pouilly-Sur-Loire Giles Chollet 2013

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine for £12 from the website www.winesensations.co.uk. Pouilly-sur-Loire is an appellation created in 1939,although there has been viticulture here since at least the Romans, for white wines made of the chasselas grape from 7 communes on the east bank of the river Loire around the small town of that name. This is the same area as for the more popular Pouilly-Fume appellation. The chasselas grape originates in Switzerland and there are only a total of 60 hectares under vine here.Giles Chollet is a small producer in this area I started my bottle last night with my supper of baked mackerel. It is a very dry wine with a fairly bland melon style fruit but also some citrus especially on the finish. It was a good match for my fish.

Gilles Chollet:
Giles Chollet has been making white wines on his 12 hectare estate for over 20 years. He makes one cuvee of Pouilly-sur-Loire and three of Pouilly-Fume ln spite of the small size the estate has a high reputation and the wines have won many awards.
