Portal Do Minho Branco Vinho Verde 2015

Member Review by duncan 906:

I bought this bottle of wine from a local supermarket for £5. Vinho Verde got DOC status in 1984,although viticulture here goes back to at least the Romans, for red, rose, white and sparkling wines [though most are white] from an area in the extreme north-west corner of Portugal.A number of Portugese grape varieties are allowed. Most are low alchol [my bottle is only 10% ABV].My bottle was made by the Caves do Monte co-operative group and is a blend of the loureiro, azai, and avesso grape varieties.I started my bottle last night with my quiche salad. My first impresion was of a 'fizzy' sensation as it is very slighly sparkling which is apparently typical of vinho verde white wines.I would describe this wine as a 'demi-sec' not bone dry nor sweet but in between. There is an apple and pear style fruit with citrus as well, especially on the finish. In short, this is an unusual wine but it went well with the quiche salad.
