Port Quinta Noval 2011
Top-notch vintage character Port, this is a very good introduction to Quinta Do Noval's stellar line. Rich ruby-purple, it offers a vibrant bouquet and a mouthful of lush black fruit. With slight floral notes, it has an elegant, lingering finish.Add winemaker's notes
RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

Wine Tasting NotesIntense brick color. It as a more complex nose than the Ruby, showing youthful fruit with a raspberry character. On the palate it is medium sweet with a well balanced fruit and richness. Drink it slightly chilled as an aperitif or at room temperature with a dessert.
The 1997 vintage port is the greatest Quinta do Noval I have ever tasted. The wine of the vintage, this black/purple-colored port boasts fabulous aromatics (espresso, blackberries, licorice, tar, and flowers), followed by massive concentration, full body, and levels of depth and richness. Gorgeously sweet, stunningly concentrated and full-bodied, this profound vintage port should be legendary. Quinta do Noval's production normally approaches 4,000 cases, but in 1997, only 1200 cases were produced, so it will be extremely limited in availability. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2035.
Concentrated flavors of dried pear, apricot, cherry and spice combine into this seamless package. The finish features toffee and orange zest notes, with hints of smoke. Drink now.
This smells just like English Christmas cake. Full-bodied and very sweet, with plenty of toffee and dried fruit character on the finish. Really yummy. Drink now.
An elegant, delicate Tawny, with a full raft of dried white fruit, toffee, cream and butter flavors. The bright finish offers pear tart and spice notes, with suave, smoky overtones. Drink now.
My favorite of the three tawnys reviewed in this segment is the 20 Year Old Tawny. It offers an amber color, a spicy, tobacco, cedary, smoky, complex nose, dense, rich flavors that belie the color's aged, feeble look, and an expansive personality. It is a classic example of how delicious and complex a 20 year old tawny port can be. Tawny ports are aged in wood from essentially a solera system for the number of years indicated on the bottle. In most cases I prefer the younger ten or twenty year Tawnys to the ancient forty to fifty year old wines, but it is really a matter of taste. I tend to like more fruit rather than the oxidized and aged characteristics of the very old tawnys.
