Poppy Pinot Noir Monterey County 2013

External Review by We Speak Wine:

100% Pinot Noir from 31% Santa Lucia Highlands, 49% Arroyo Seco and 20% Monterey. Great Pinot Noir, like the California Golden Poppy, thrives in cool coastal climates. The Monterey Pinot is a blend of several carefully selected vineyards, all located in cool regions and meticulously farmed for intense ripe flavors. It blends several Pinot Noir clones, from the higher color Dijon clones to the flavorful Jackson clone, for added complexity and balance. The grapes are cold soaked to extract flavor without harshness and to stabilize color. The fermentation is warm with several pump overs per day. The wine is gently pressed, with some of the wine going straight to French oak barrels and the balance going to tank for settling. The tank and barrel lots are rotated mid season. - Winery Alcohol: 13.5%

Poppy, located in Monterey Wine Country, was founded by the Silva Family who have spent over 45 years diligently tending to the land of the beautiful Salinas Valley. In 2003 the Silva family endeavored to channel their passions into a carefully crafted family wine. Poppy would be founded on the principles of creating consistently elegant and approachable wines- the quintessential California wine experience. By controlling grape sourcing and operating a state of the art facility, Poppy has blended age old winemaking traditions with new world techniques in the manner that has made the California wine industry great. When deciding on a name the Silva’s wanted something that spoke to the great state of California, where their family had settled so many years ago. While looking into the vineyard at wild poppies growing amongst the vines the name was born. What celebrates the state of California more than its golden blooms, the Poppy, a proud symbol for our great state and this great wine. Enjoy a glass of California. Enjoy a glass of Poppy! Salud, from the Silva family to yours! Read less
