What to Expect

Arneis is the white grape of Italy's Piedmont region. It produces a lightly styled white wine with gentle citrus edged orchard fruits that recalls pear and apricot and a slightly bitter floral note that can resemble almonds on the palate. Traditionally Arneis was produced as a slightly sweet wine and several producers continue this tradition.

Winemakers Notes

HISTORY: This very rare and special Italian varietal is traditionally planted in the Northern Piedmonte region of Italy. During one of the many trips to visit the Currado family of Vietti Winery, the Ponzi family was surprised by the wine’s delightful flavors and lovely balance. Reviews

Rating: 93/100 - As reviewed by Vinfolio in Issue 109 The Ponzi's own one of only three domestic sources of Arneis, planted in 1991. It seems so incongruous in a portfolio of some of the most revered Pinot in the state, however, the Ponzis have always been innovators and this turns out to be an excellent, though surprising wine. A brightly herbal and melon nose leads into the softly textured palate showing clean acidity with a hint of clean melon on the finish.
