Pommery Cuvee Louise 2002

Winemaker's Notes:

"A hint of wood smoke wafts through this subtle version, with a tactile texture akin to taffeta. Finely balanced, this offers hints of white raspberry, golden raisin, pastry and honeycomb." –AN, Wine Spectator (92 Points)

Lacy textured and with some real aromatic interest. Presumably Pommery was a very different company when this was made? Tiny bead. Some depth and breadth - indeed this seems at the peak of its powers. Rather like a lace petticoat that keeps slipping off a shoulder. Silky and undisciplined. Slightly metallic finish. 17/20 Jancis Robinson.

60% chardonnay 40% pinot noir. Grapes from the crus of Avize Cramant and Ay. Named after Louise Pommery who is said to have developed the term "brut" as dry Champagne became in vogue. Very good effervescence pure and focused notes of white florals honey-drenched apricots and roasted nuts is most present quite different from the juicier style of the "Brut Royal". Of medium weight and body these flavors fan out across the palate with an element of freshly shaved sandalwood providing intrigue through to a lovely finish. (L91805) Chuck Hayward.

Louise is always a light wine almost feathery and this 1999 now mature maintains this style. It is delicate its acidity just touched with toast and hints of citrus zest underneath. It doesn
