Pommard Clos des Ursulines-Bichot Domaine du Pavillon 2005

Member Review by zufrieden:

This lonely bottle in my paired-down wine cellar (or facsimile thereof) opens with a scent of wet earth, violets and dried cranberry; colour is well retained and only slightly lighter than at bottling, with entry surprisingly tart (acidic rather than tannic) with strawberry notes and a fairly long finish. Light for a Pommard, so drink up. 88.

The Château du Pavillon sits on the best hillsides of the ‘Sainte Croix du Mont’; from this premier geographic location, the vineyard lords over the green banks of the Garonne River. The soil and the sub-soil contain a uniquely rich deposit of oyster shells. The combined features of the vineyard, with plantings of Semillon, Sauvignon and Muscadelle, the calcified sub-soil and the careful attention with which the domain is managed ensure the exceptional quality of the harvests. An attentive approach to aging and bottling in the caves of the Chateau du Pavillon itself guarantee the high quality of the crus which are recognized amongst the best in the region. Le Chateau du Pavillon, a historic monument, was built in 1761 by the famous Laclotte Brothers is, in and of itself, worth a visit. Read less

Depth to the aromas of black cherry and plum, and richness of fruit in the mid-palate. Drying finish.
