Poliziano Red Bordeaux Blend Toscana IGT le Stanze 2008

Member Review by Howard Hilton:

I think I agree with the Decanter review but must say that I did not find the wine to be 'Italian". I think I had expected a sangiovese based wine. These Super Tuscans taste OK but really it could have come from anywhere. No typicity.

Le Stanze 2006 - 92 Points, Wine Advocate/ The 2006 Le Stanze di Poliziano (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot) is a dark, brooding offering packed with black cherries, blackberries, grilled herbs and French oak. This muscular, full-bodied wine possesses tons of depth and richness. The tannins need some time to soften, but the wine is absolutely beautiful, even at this early stage.

/ Cabernet and Merlot are combined in 70-30 proportions. The aromas are elegant and tightly packed: Cherry, blackberry, molasses, maple syrup and tobacco leaf make up the core. The mouthfeel is dense and richly textured thanks to the wine's excellent structure.

Le Stanze 2006 - 93 Points, Wine Enthusiast/ You'll love the rich concentration and density of this wine. The nose is finely focused on aromas of black fruit, moist tobacco and black pepper. In the mouth, this Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot blend delivers firm, drying tannins and a long burst of black fruit on the finish.

Le Stanze 2005/ The estate's 2005 Le Stanze di Poliziano is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot that spent 16 months in new French oak. It is a deeply-colored, full-bodied wine loaded with blackberries, blueberries, new leather and spices. It needs bottle age for the tannins to settle down and for the wine to incorporate its oak.

Le Stanze 2005 - 4 Stars, Restaurant Wine/ Full bodied, crisp, and intensely flavored; a Cabernet blend with zesty acidity, and a lightly tannic finish, with aromas/flavors reminiscent of cassis, plum, cedar, spicy oak, and tobacco.

Le Stanze 2005 - 93 Points, Wine Spectator/ Very pretty aromas of currant and dark chocolate follow through to a full body, with fine tannins and a fruity, refined aftertaste. All in balance. Needs time to show its true potential.

Le Stanze 2006 - 90 Points, Wine Spectator/ Shows violet and currant on the nose, wth mineral. Full-bodied, with round tannins and a solid core of ripe, almost jammy fruit. Chewy.
