The Wine News ReviewThe 1999 has an intense, vibrant rose gold color. A lovely red fruit quality is clearly evident on the nosea touch of fraise de bois or wild strawberry and hints of raspberry along with bright red apple. In the mouth, the red berries recede a bit and give way to the red apple and a hint of yellow stone fruit. I love the exceptional balance of this wine; its very clean and elegant on the palate and lingers on a long finish.Wine Tasting NotesAn intense golden pink color, the powerful, concentrated nose shows ripe wild strawberry and raspberry. The wine has a lively, refreshing and light character on the palate, with dried apricot and mint notes. A lifting acidity precedes a long finish, which bodes well for the wine's aging ability and its facility to pair with food.

Pol Roger, founded in Épernay in 1849, is unusual for a major Champagne house in that it makes a substantial amount ofd its wine - almost 45 percent - from its estate vineyards. It’s also unusual in that it remains a family-owned (most of the big brands are owned by giant corporations). It’s hard to say whether that contributes to the quality of Pol Roger’s wines, but as this pink-gold, wild berry-scented rosé shows, the bar is set very high.

Candied berry and lemon meringue aromas and flavors highlight this lively rosandeacute;. Shows good intensity and harmony, while the berry notes linger on the finish. A delicate style, with a spicy aftertaste. Drink now through 2015.

Clean, clear red currant flavors give this wine a gentle fruitiness. Chill it for fresh strawberries and the finals at Wimbledon.

Weingut: Pol RogerLand: FrankreichRegion: Champagne - EpernayRebsorte: 60% Pinot Noir, 40% ChardonnayInhalt: 1,5 lAlkoholgehalt: 12,0 Vol.%Lagerfähigkeit: mindestens bis 2018Empfohlene Serviertemperatur: 9 °C Champagner - Sekt - Prickelndes > Frankreich > Champagne

Winemaker's Notes:

Cepage: 60% Pinot Noir 40% Chardonnay with15% Coteaux Champenois Rouge (or Grand Cru Pinot Noir vinified as a red wine) added later. Dosage: 10.5 g/l Produced by Pol Roger, like all its Vintage styles, only in years when growing and harvest conditions can produce grapes of sufficient standard, the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay musts underwent 2 cold settlings before fermentation in stainless steel to preserve the fruit characteristics of the wine. The wine then had 15% still red Pinot Noir wine from the village of Chouilly added to the blend which was then transferred to bottle for its second fermentation and ageing in the cellars. 2000 proved to be a difficult growing season with warm winter spring and autumn weather but with a chilly wet July which introduced the threat of mildew and insect attack. It also proved to be one of the worst years of the century for hail and thunderstorms which wrought havoc in some vineyards. Return of good weather just before harvest between 18th September – 1st October resulted in an abundant clean crop which has produced early maturing wines. An intense, brilliant pink colour. A powerful bouquet discloses concentrated citrus fruit aromas, even stewed strawberries. In the mouth, the balance between minerality and firmness from the tannins and the mature fruit has produced a full-bodied Champagne, full of personality. The finish reveals the wine’s youthfulness and suggests that it has a bright future both on its own and when paired with food
