User Reviews for Poggio San Polo Brunello di Montalcino a Selection of Wines Or Other Items Italy Tuscany Sangiovese

Winemaker's Notes:

This property was bought and established by Silvia Fertonani and her husband Mario Calzolari. With the 1999 vintage, the rising star of Poggio San Polo established itself brightly in Montalcino’s firmament and this was confirmed with the double Gold Medal for the estate at the 2004 International Wine Challenge (1999 Brunello and 2001 Mezzo Pane). In addition, the 1999 Brunello won the Sangiovese trophy. Following a rift in the family, the estate was put up for sale and bought by Marilisa Allegrini of Verona in 2006. She is planning to invest heavily in the wines and has brought in winemaker Nicolo Biasi to build on the already impressive levels of quality. Brunello di Montalcino shows intense ruby in colour with powerful red fruit and violet perfumes on the nose with touches of coffee and vanilla. On the palate it is elegant and well balanced yet dense with well integrated and tannins and a long, persistent finish.
