Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Premier 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

The Brunello Riserva Poggio Antico is only produced in exceptional vintages. In those years the grapes from the oldest and lowest altitude vineyard are processed and aged separately. The Poggio Antico Riserva spends three and a half years in wood; the first year of aging takes place in 500-liter French tonneaux while the remaining aging is in new Slavonian oak barrels. The wine is then bottle aged for one and a half years before release to complete the mandatory five years of total aging. The result is a mature, round and complex wine.

Vintage: 2006 04/18/2013

Sharply defined aromas of spice, chiseled mineral, dried tobacco and cassis open the bouquet of this dark, concentrated wine. There’s a floral note of spicy potpourri and cinnamon stick, tight tannins and bright acidity.

Medium bright red. Warm aromas of plum, spices, marzipan and nutty oak. Plush, rich and pliant, showing terrific depth to its sweet red fruit flavors. Quite large-scaled for a Brunello from this estate, and surprisingly approachable now. Finishes with chewy but smooth tannins, excellent length and a taste of vanillin oak.
