Poggio Antico Brunello di Montalcino Riserva(1997)

The 1980 Brunello di Montalcino was the first wine in Italy to obtain the D.O.C.G. appellation (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita - controlled and guaranteed from the origin). The D.O.C.G. is the most prestigious classification of wine in Italy. As a result, only specialized and authorized vineyards can produce Brunello di Montalcino and a series of rules regarding production must be observed.

Fabulous aromas of exotic fruit, with violets, lavender and roses. Full-bodied, loads of ripe fruit, yet there's a fresh berry, black pepper and vanilla character. Long finish. This is concentrated and needs time. Best after 2005. -Wine Spectator As per the D.O.C.G. regulations, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva must be aged for a total of five years as opposed to four required for the regular Brunello.
