Poggio Antico Altero 2001

Winemaker's Notes:

92 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): The 2001 Brunello di Montalcino, which sees only cask, presents a very dark color along with more classic profile in its expressive nose and nuances of tobacco, sweet cherries, tar and minerals. Although it, too, shows excellent concentration and balance today, it comes across more austere and structured than the Altero. That said, my impression is that it will ultimately develop into a Brunello of greater complexity, depth and nuance. A day after opening it had blossomed into a splendid Brunello. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2021. (Dec 2006)
