Poggio Al Tesoro W 2005
Poggio al Tesoro is the result of a joint venture between the Allegrini family of Verona, northern Italy and American importer, Leonardo Lo Cascio. Situated in Bolgheri, on Italy’s Tyrrhenian coast, this 70 hectare property was acquired in 2001 by the Allegrini family. They brought in consultant winemaker Alberto Antonini to advise on viticulture and winemaking. 2003 was their first vintage. ‘W’ was named after Walter Allegrini, brother of Franco and Marilisa Allegrini. The wine is intense ruby red in colour, with perfumes of spiced, red fruits and nicely balanced toasty oak. On the palate the wine has excellent structure, with ripe fruit and sweet, soft tannins. It is full-bodied and well balanced, with a long, elegant finish.

Packet with ripe cabernet fruit, this shows smoky, integrated wood and earth notes on the nose. The palate is medium to full bodied, rich, powerful and with nice acidity; this shows some real length on the finish.
