Poggio Al Tesoro Red Blend Toscana IGT Meditérra 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Poggio al Tesoro is the result of a joint venture between the Allegrini family of Verona, northern Italy and American importer, Leonardo Lo Cascio. Situated in Bolgheri, on Italy’s Tyrrhenian coast, this 70 hectare property was acquired in 2001 by the Allegrini family. They brought in consultant winemaker Alberto Antonini to advise on viticulture and winemaking. 2003 was the first vintage. The wine is deep crimson in colour, with a purple/black dark rim. Mediterra is a youthful, perfumed wine, with spiced ripe, blackberry fruit supported by warm, supple tannins.

The 2006 Mediterra is 40% Syrah, 30% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon made from the estate's youngest vineyards. The wine possesses awesome clarity in its dark fruit, flowers, graphite and grilled herbs, with a long, powerful finish. This delicious Tuscan wine offers incredible value. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2016.

Displays aromas of chocolate and berry, with hints of cedar. Full, soft and round, with plenty of juicy fruit. Long and beautiful, with a lovely finish. Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best after 2010.
