Poderi Colla Barolo Bussia 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

"There isn’t much of a need to actually taste the 2007 Barbaresco Roncaglie. The bouquet alone is extraordinary. Sweet roses, cherries, hard candy and flowers are woven together in a mid-weight yet generous fabric of unusual elegance. Today the tannins are a bit foreboding, but there is every reason to think this will develop into a hugely rewarding wine in a few years’ time. The purity of the fruit is striking, while the wine’s balance is compelling. I was struck by the firmness of the Roncaglie. It is one of the most structured 2007 Barbareschi I tasted."*-Wine Advocate (94+ points)*

In 1993, Tino Colla and his niece Federica decided to combine forces, creating a new wine venture in the glorious tradition of the Alba and Langhe territory. The Collas’ loyalty to the roots of classic Piedmontese viniculture sprang from a family heritage going back through many generations; the individual, respectfully innovative drive was all their own. Tino and Federica thus founded Poderi Colla. This is made up of three distinct properties: Cascine Drago in Alba, heart of the Langhe appellation; Tenuta Roncaglia, which takes its name from the historic Barbaresco cru; and Tenuta Dardi Le Rose, forming part of the renowned Barolo Bussia cru in Monforte. Three outstanding locations for three great categories: a near-complete spectrum of Alba winemaking. Beppe Colla, Federica’s father and Tino’s brother, supplies a fundamental contribution with his constant support and collaboration. He brings with him the unique, impassioned oenological experience of fifty years at the highest levels of Alba’s star reds. Production - around 150,000 bottles yearly - is entirely estate-bottled, in order to ensure direct quality control of each phase of the winemaking process from vineyard to bottle. Read less

nice sandy, almost saline notes, subtle burnished astringent fruits, a touch of woodsmoke, sweet fruit but with good acid balance and a nice mineral edged tone to the crisp tannins that offer nice balance, flavors are a bit earthy and lean in a good way, not complex but with a fresh feel and clean texture, nice earthy spice notes on the finish, good length, nice almost stemmy tone
