What to Expect

Sangiovese's claim to fame is its role as the heart of Chianti, Brunello and many Super Tuscan wines though it is gaining ground as a varietal wine around the globe. When grown in a suitable location the grape's soft tannins, succulent acidity and moderately intense cherry and herb flavors make Sangiovese very easy to drink as well as supremely versatile at the dinner table.

Winemakers Notes

Castellare Chianit Classico is a traditional Tuscan classic made from 95% Sangioveto and 5% Canaiolo harvested from estate vineyards at 1200 feet above sea level in the heart of Chianti Classico. This Chianti is brilliant ruby red with an ample bouquet of violets iris and vanilla followed by deep layers of fruit on the palate. Dry and full bodied with hints of almond and slight notes of tobacco. This is a concentrated consistently round wine with a velvety feel and a lingering finish. The Castellare property has become a virtual refuge for wildlife including many of the birds pictured on the labels. read more...
