User Reviews for Poderi Aldo Conterno Romarisco Barolo DOCG Piemonte

Winemaker's Notes:

Aldo Conterno’s family has been producing great Piedmontese wines for more than five generations. Since setting up on his own after splitting with his brother Giovanni (who kept the Giacomo Conterno label), Aldo has been in the front rank of Piedmontese producers. He has been an innovator of great importance and the dynamism which engendered such innovation has been passed onto his sons, who now run the winery. Conterno produced no Barolo in either 2002 or 2003 so we are delighted with the return to form in the 2004 and 2005 vintages. This single vineyard Barolo is deep coloured and powerful, with perfumes of ‘sottobosco’ and violets giving way to a rich, rounded palate. Tannins are characteristically high but have the Conterno silkiness which makes the wines approachable at an early stage. Full-bodied and velvety, the finish is incredibly long and elegant.
