Refined and aromatic. Very pretty dried flowers on the nose, with hints of plum and other ripe red fruit. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a ripe fruit finish. Best after 2006. 800 cases made. -JS Wine Spectator. A Nebbiolo wine from Piedmont in Italy. 1999 Aldo Conterno Barolo Cicala 750ml

Winemaker's Notes:

95 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): Bright full red. Highly aromatic, minerally nose of raspberry, spice and underbrush; less open today than the Colonnello but very pure and noble. Wonderfully sweet on entry, then considerably less evolved in the middle palate. A powerful, penetrating wine with superb acidity and grip. Firmly tannic, tough and long, but the tannins are nonetheless buried under explosive fruit. The Colonnello is gentler and sweeter on the back today, but this rather masculine Barolo has uncanny persistence. One of the stars of the vintage. (Nov/Dec 2002)
